Shower tub spout diverter repair
The shower diverter serves as a very simple valve that has only two settings: left open it will allow all the water to flow through the tub spout for a bath or it can be closed which will divert the water up and out the shower head for a shower. There are two types of replacement spouts: one is a slip on spout that simply slides over a 1/2" copper pipe the other kind is a FIP or threaded diverter spout. The later is a much better spout because it seals better than the slip on kind. The threaded units connect more securely and have a much lower chance of leaking as where the slip on spouts have one o-ring that simply slides over the pipe. The problem is that making a threaded nipple means having to know how to solder or you will need to purchase a brass nipple that's the perfect length. Some Do-it-yourselfers will make the mistake of installing a black iron pipe which will rust and cause all sorts of problems later. If you need a little plumbing help give me a call!
