Deck Remodel

Here is a deck remodel we did around a residential pond in Rainbow, CA. We reinforced the 4”x8” posts with 1/2"x10" bolts to lock everything in. In a perfect world, we would do more demo to make new framing fit together nicely with the old, however the client wanted to simply redo the handrail, along with 3 rows of 2”x6” for the deck. We were thinking of combining both 1-1/2"x1-1/2” ballisters with 2”×4” ones every 12”, however once we laid it out we found that the 1-1/2"x1-1/2” pieces by themselves gave it a nice, clean, & consistent look. because of this, I ended up picking up more materials to finish off the ballisters since we anticipated using the 2”x4” ballisters and did not have enough.

And as an aside, material costs are through the roof due to shipping irregularities with Covid. Keep that in mind all you home owners!

Check out the pictures towards the bottom of the not so up to code handrail we demo’d. We removed some big 12” diameter posts.

You can see how we started the refinishing process on the 2”x6” itself. Stay tuned for the finished product!
